On August 9th, the community gathered at the Odette Memorial Library to celebrate the dedication of a new Peace Pole, a powerful international symbol of hope and unity.

Organized by the Interact Club of Tilbury—Rotary’s youth service group for ages 12–18—this event brought together local residents, Rotarians, and supporters, all committed to fostering peace at home and around the world.

The Peace Pole, inscribed with the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in eight different languages, now stands as a daily reminder of our shared commitment to harmony. The ceremony recognized the inspiring efforts of Tilbury’s young leaders, with special thanks to Kathy Cottingham, Rotary’s Youth Services–Interact Director, who helped guide and support the project.

“We’re so proud of the kids and what they have accomplished today,” said Cottingham. “This dedication is a long-term tribute and gift to our community.”

Attendees also contributed to another vital cause by donating non-perishable food items for the local food bank—a tradition the Rotary Club of Tilbury proudly upholds through ongoing support for food security in our region.

“Thank you to everyone who joined us for this meaningful event and to those who continue to support peace and service in Tilbury. Together, we’re making a difference—locally and globally,” concluded Cottingham.
